The app
Word of the Day saves your lesson progress, learned words, streak dates, and spelling responses on your device and on our Convex backend. A random installation identifier keeps this activity together. We use it to save your place and record your learning.
No account, name, email address, or phone number is required. We do not sell your lesson activity or use it for targeted advertising.
App analytics and notifications
We collect anonymous session starts and duration, screen visits, learning events, approximate country and region derived from your IP address, and time zone to understand use and returning visits. Analytics do not include typed answers or precise location. Vercel derives the approximate location at the network edge; we store the country and region in analytics, not your raw IP address. VPNs and mobile networks may affect accuracy.
If you enable notifications, we store an Apple push device token to deliver the latest released word at 9 a.m. in your device’s time zone and occasional messages from the editor. You can disable notifications in iOS Settings.
Videos and audio
Lessons include YouTube videos and externally hosted audio. These providers receive technical information, such as your IP address, when their content loads. YouTube uses its privacy-enhanced player; its own privacy policy applies.
What we collect
If you join the text list, we collect your phone number, the time and version of your consent, and limited technical information used to prevent abuse.
How we use it
We use this information to operate the Word of the Day text list, record consent, deliver messages, honor opt-out requests, and protect the signup form.
The optional text list is separate from the app. We do not join lesson activity to text-list records.
Mobile information
Mobile information will not be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. We may use service providers only to operate the text program and deliver messages on our behalf.
Your choices
Reply STOP to unsubscribe from text messages. Reply HELP for help. You may rejoin later by completing the signup form and authorizing messages again.
Retention
Lesson activity remains stored so the app can remember your progress. Contact us with questions about access or deletion; because we do not collect your identity in the app, we may need help locating your installation’s records.
We retain consent and opt-out records as needed to run the program responsibly and demonstrate that messaging preferences were honored.
